It is known that the Government of Ethiopia is undertaking vast and numerous developmental programs to achieve the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) series laid out for the holistic renaissance of the country. The Addis Ababa – Adama Expressway (AAE) is one of the construction mega projects developed as part of GTP-I which is open for traffic and administered by the Ethiopian Toll Roads Enterprise. Other expressways (Modjo-Hawassa and Adama-Awash) are underway and many more are planned for future development and operation in line with the dynamic socio-economic development of Ethiopia.
Exciting news from the Ethiopian Toll Roads Enterprise (ETRE)! We are proud to announce the upcoming launch of our cutting-edge Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) service, scheduled to go live in early November 2024. This innovative system is set to transform the tolling experience on the Addis-Adama Expressway, bringing unprecedented convenience and efficiency to your journeys.
The ETC service will eliminate the need for drivers to stop at toll booths, fumble with cash, or wait in long queues. Instead, the process will be fully automated, allowing for faster travel times and smoother trips. With ETC, toll payments become completely cashless, enhancing not only convenience but also security.
Getting started is easy. Simply visit one of ETRE’s designated sales outlets to obtain an RFID tag for your vehicle. After registering your vehicle and linking it to your tag, you can load funds via Ethio-Telecom’s Telbirr or other supported payment methods. Once your account is set up, you’ll be able to drive through toll points effortlessly as your RFID tag automatically processes payments.
